Powermatic Data Systems Ltd. (BCY) is an investment holding company, which engages in the design and manufacture of wireless connectivity devices and provision of wireless solutions. It operates through the following segments: Wireless Connectivity products and Freehold Investment Property. The Wireless Connectivity Products segment comprises manufacture, marketing, and distribution of wireless connectivity products. The Freehold Investment Property involves in the lease and maintenance of Harrison Industrial Building. The company was founded by Mong Chea Chen and Mun Chen on February 1, 1989 and is headquartered in Singapore.

1991: Incorporation of Subsidiarie:- Powermatic Distribution was incorporated to distribute mass market computer peripherals.1

1992: Listed on SGX:- Powermatic Data Systems Ltd. was listed on the Singapore Exchange (Main Board) on the strength of providing LAN connectivity products.

2002: Compex Wireless Connectivity:- Compex Systems launched its propriety wireless connectivity products. The company's Compex Suzhou Factory was set up in China to handle the manufacturing.

Business

Through its subsidiaries Compex Systems and Compex Suzhou, the company specialize in the design and manufacturing of wireless connectivity devices. The company's services include the provision of OEM, ODM, and JDM for wireless solutions.2

The company's product range includes high performance wireless radio modules, embedded boards, indoor and outdoor access points and wireless antennas. The company's products are used in various industries such as Factory automation, Healthcare, Hospitality, Security surveillance and many others.3

Powermatic Data Systems is in a strong partnership with Qualcomm Atheros (QCA). The company's subsidiary Compex Systems Pte Ltd is officially appointed as Qualcomm Authorized Design Centre in South East Asia. As a Qualcomm design center, the company provide its wireless knowhow in both hardware and software services to many multinational corporations.

The company's clientele includes reputable distributors of electronic and wireless device components, system integrators, wireless products design houses, and Fortune 500 corporations.

Presently Wireless connectivity business is its main revenue and profit driver. From Radio modules and Access Points, Powermatic Data Systems has succeeded in releasing various leading wireless products in the market. We’ve also introduced the world’s first standard form factor miniPCIe 4×4 WAVE2 radio.

The group holds a manufacturing plant in Suzhou, China. The company's research and development team are constantly developing new proprietary products with distinct and high-end features to meet a fast growing market that places stringent demand on product quality and performance.

The company's Singapore team has excelled in it’s role as Qualcomm’s Authorised Design Center (ADC), channeling its knowledge and expertise on technical details of Qualcomm’s wireless chip-sets to well-known international companies. Compex has established itself as Qualcomm’s ADC in South East Asia.

Wireless Connectivity Products & Services

Wireless connectivity is the core business and the main profit driver of the Group. Apart from manufacturing its own designed wireless connectivity hardware and software (design capabilities to value-add upon full range of hardware for quicker time-to-market solutions), the group also provides OEM, ODM solutions and other sales related services to customers.

Freehold Investment Property

The Group’s property business is carried out by the holding company Powermatic Data Systems itself. The freehold property is situated at 7 & 9 Harrison Road, Singapore, 369651. The company house its Singapore operations in one of the units and rent out the rest

Financial Highlight

Revenue for FY2019 ended March 31, was S$20.95 million as compared with FY2018 S$16.14 million, increased by 30%.  Profit before tax for FY2019 was S$7.73 million as compared to S$5.31 million for FY2018, representing a 46% increase. In FY2019, the Group registered an exchange gain of S$0.48 million as opposed to a loss of S$0.86 million in FY2018.4

A large part of the group’s income are derived from value-add services, including consultations, design services, engineering works, with a specialized backend manufacturing in the area of wireless communication. The company also identified growing segments of market such as IOT, Industrial Industrial PC, and transportation etc. 

The company's products and services have a global reach. In terms of geographical contributions, USA accounted for 33% of the total revenue, followed by Asia 31%, Europe 22%, and other regions 14%.
