3. History

tata-heritage-image1.jpg

Tata Agrico was founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata to pave the path for industrialization in India and was established in 1925.

Since 1925, Tata Agrico has been among the leading manufacturer of handheld implements like hoes, shovels, sickles, crowbars, pickaxes and hammers. These implements cater to the needs of agriculture, infrastructure as well as mining sectors. This traditional product range has now become even richer with the addition of garden tools like secateurs, cultivators, trowels, bill hooks, cane choppers, hedge shears and garden rake.

The division lays extreme stress on quality processes and is ISO 9001:2008 certified. Tata Agrico launched its very own range of general-purpose hand tools and files in 2009. The product basket consists of pliers, spanners, wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, saw and engineering files. The aesthetics and packaging are in a league of its own, making it the favourite of carpenters, blacksmiths, mechanics, plumbers and electricians all across the country. Keeping up with the technological development and the changing face of farming in India, Tata Agrico marked its entry into mechanised agricultural sector with mechanised- consumables like tiller shoe, harrow disc and the Rotavator blade. Tata Agrico entered the mechanized non-consumables sector with the Grasshopper sub-brand. The first product under Grasshopper is the Tata Agrico Grasshopper Rotary Tiller which within a year of its launch has gained appreciation by farmers and government alike. This was followed by the introduction of Seed Drills and Cultivators in FY13. In FY’14 power weeders and power tillers are an addition to the Grasshopper offerings which are aimed to equip the Indian farmers with advantages of the latest agriculture technology at affordable rates. In FY’15 Tata Agrico also launched MB Plough and Threshers which marks the entry of the division into the threshing and harvesting product segment. Mini paddy thresher is a most recent addition to the Grasshopper offering.
